Finding a writers’ community can be hard. But sometimes finding a community can be simpler than you think. In this article, we’re highlighting three online spaces where you can connect with other writers in order to grow as a writer and improve your screenplay!

THE IMPORTANCE OF FINDING YOUR TRIBE

Having a community of writers is a great way to stay sharp on your skills. You can have others read your screenplay and stay up-to-date on industry news. Hollywood can also be a lot to handle at times and it’s great to have a community of like-minded writers you can depend on. It can be tough to find a community though, especially if you are in a small town. But fret, not! The internet is a great tool. Check out the three spaces below where you can find and connect with other screenwriters.
Writer's Community

FINDING YOUR WRITING TRIBE ONLINE

  1. Twitter. If you’re not on Twitter, you should be. Twitter is a great place to find and connect with other writers from all over the world. Twitter is also a great place to stay current on the industry and news relating to writers like the current WGA writers strike. Following writers on Twitter, of various levels, is a great way to start. Have a favorite show? Look up the writers and follow them on Twitter! But don’t just follow - engage in conversations. Being active on Twitter is not only a great way to brand yourself as a writer but also a tool to meet other like-minded individuals.
  2. Facebook. It may seem a little outdated or only a place to update close friends and family members, but Facebook is a great resource for finding screenwriting groups to join. You can even try searching screenwriting groups for your area or how you identify like BIPOC or queer.
  3. TPP’s BFF Membership. The Professional Pen’s BFF Membership is a great option if you want to connect with other writers and learn the craft of screenwriting. You have access to our entire workshop playlist and free access to our monthly workshops. You also have monthly access to what we call office hours with our Head Consultant & CEO Shannan E. Johnson, where you can meet other writers virtually and get your screenwriting questions answered on the spot. To learn more about joining BFF’s click here.
