Learn Screenplay StructureOpen to all levels
What is screenplay structure? Screenplay structure is the breakdown of action, called story beats, told in an organic order to stimulate an emotional response. Structure is what we lay people call storytelling. Structure is everything. In order to become a professional screenwriter, you must master it so you can kick out multiple screenplays per year, have a strong portfolio, and always be in the business of selling your next idea and sealing your next gig. Understanding structure also helps you find loopholes in your story and fix them during the revisions process. Learning how story mechanisms function, help you understand what we call in Hollywood - the note within the note - because you know why something isn't working and the effect it has on the rest of the story. TPP’s Idea to Story course takes your idea for a feature or television pilot or spec and builds it from the ground up through:

THE TABLE READOpen to screenwriters of all levels
Congratulations! You've done the work and finished your screenplay. Take a beat and celebrate this moment. Then come back with fresh eyes and ears to hear your characters' voices jump off the page in The Table Read.
Table Reads are an important part of the production process for features and TV series. It is the time when the entire creative team, including the studio and network executives, and production team gather to hear the script read aloud for the first time by the cast. |
What is a Table Read?
A reading of a screenplay in which the dialogue, action, and scene headings are read out loud by a cast of actors. The Table Read gives screenwriters an opportunity to hear their words aloud by actors followed by a talkback to provide insight on the current status of your screenplay. During a Table Read, screenwriters should be looking for:
And, the best part? TPP does all of the heavy lifting. We create the space, cast the roles, and lead the talkback. All you have to do is show up with an open mind and listen to your words spring from the page. |
The Table Read is best for screenwriters who are ready to workshop their script by hearing their screenplay aloud before they head into the revisions process.

Open to intermediate+ level actors
Filmmaking is a collaborative effort. There are no works to produce without writers. Subsequently, there is no produced work without actors. We need each other in order to create our art and entertain the masses. The Table Read is not only an opportunity to share your talent with our writers as they hone their craft, but also an opportunity for actors to work on theirs.
